Looking up the Skagit River corridor toward Canada
from the North Cascades Highway 20. Ross Lake covers much of the upper Skagit
drainage area which was heavily mined in the late 1800's. Prior to the opening
of the horse trail up the Skagit River in 1892, miners traveled down this
corridor from Hope, B.C. to reach the placer diggings on Ruby Creek.,
